Other variants I'm considering include a heavy carrier and a heavy-weapons focused design. The Affinity serves as a balanced design, with an emphasis on versatility. (This model was based on the midi-scale Imperial Star Destroyer, first of what may be a series of modified Republic ISDs.
The sublight propulsion system was also drastically overhauled to bring its speed in line with the MC80s it was often grouped up with. As powerful as it is, the Venator -class Star Destroyer is also commanded and crewed by some of the best the Republic has to offer, including two new. Much of the weaponry was redistributed, placing half the ship's heavy turbolasers on the central spine and installing additional heavy ion cannons on the ship's midsection. A beacon of the Republic, the Venator-class Star Destroyer often leads fleets into battle and this expansion gives you two different options for adding it to your fleet on two ship cards. Significant modifications were made to the conning tower to better protect the bridge and shield generators, along with the addition of an aft hangar. Modelled here is the Affinity, a modified Imperial II-class star destroyer serving with the New Republic fleet. However, most would undergo substantial modifications to mitigate design flaws and keep them relevant over their service lives. The New Republic would capture a good number of Imperial Star Destroyers after the Battle of Endor, many of which would go on to serve in the ranks of the New Republic's navy, where their strength, size, and abundance of these vessels made them useful assets.
